I am basically self-taught, learning to paint through study, practice and by participating in numerous workshops where I learned techniques using oil, watercolor, acrylic and pastels. My paintings are usually very realistic, but I am trying to achieve a more impressionistic feeling as I progress. At age 79, I find myself rushing to try everything! After I retired from teaching first grade for 22 years, I accepted a position in a private school to teach art to elementary students. It was here that I explored the use of colored tissue paper as a medium for creating exciting pictures where each child could feel success. I taught art for 10 years, but it was not until 5 years later that I actually began to create my own work. Presently, I paint mostly in watercolor because I teach this to senior adults at my church. I also enjoy working in oil, acrylic, tissue paper and pastels.
